Urgent Notice – Draft Press Release And Notice To Durban Transport Commuters Temporary Interruption Of The Durban Transport Bus Service

Due to the spread of COVID 19 infections to the Durban Transport Employees, Tansnat, who is the

contracted Bus Operator for Durban Transport, has unfortunately made a very difficult but necessary

decision, after consultation between Tansnat and the Ethekwini Transport Authority, to temporary

suspend all Durban Transport bus services during the weekend of Friday 31st July until Sunday 2nd August 2020. The bus service will stop on Friday midnight and resume on the morning of 3rd of

August 2020. During this temporary suspension period, the Municipality and Tansnat will undertake

a comprehensive deep cleaning, spraying and disinfecting of all the Depot facilities and

infrastructure including buses.

Muvo Card sales will continue as normal to enable commuters to top up their cards in preparation

for the resumption of service on Monday 3rd August 2020.

The temporary suspension of the Bus service is a very difficult but necessary decision that we have

had to make to prevent potential rapid spread of infections to both staff and our passengers. The

lives and health of employees and staff must be prioritised and safeguarded during this difficult

period.

We would like to apologise to our customers who rely on the bus service for the inconvenience

that will result from the temporary suspension of the bus service. We also request that our

customers make alternative transport arrangements during the temporary suspension period. We

have tried to minimise the impact by scheduling this interruption during the weekend where the

demand and utilisation of bus service is minimal.

The bus operation will resume on the 3rd of August 2020.
